Review: Urban Decay DeSlick Setting Spray

Urban Decay DeSlick Setting Spray

Today’s post is about an oft-overlooked step in a beauty routine: setting spray.

Now, setting spray does not replace a setting powder. Rather, it’s a final step that sets everything you put on your face — foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, mascara, all of it.

Setting sprays are awesome for when you need your makeup to really last; in that respect, it’s great for bridal and other special event makeup. But incorporating them into an everyday routine can really up your wow factor.

My favourite — that I will probably repurchase after this one is done — is the Urban Decay DeSlick. This one is designed to make you less slick, just as it says; it’ll keep you matte.

What’s nice is that, even if you don’t have oily areas you want to control like I do, Urban Decay makes other setting sprays. There’s just a standard one, one for a dewy finish (great for dry skin), and a B6 infusion to revitalize the skin. I can’t speak to the efficacy of the those because De-Slick is the only one I’ve tried, but I can imagine that the other ones are likely lovely as well.

Now, I hate the packaging on this…but they recently redesigned it! I picked mine up from Hautelook about a year ago for super cheap, and it’s a jumbo one so I’m only half done. When it’s finished though, I know I’ll be getting a new one, and it’ll be in the new, super sleek packaging. Yay!

A cool trick to keep skin very matte is to spray this on just before you put on your foundation, and then after you’ve finished applying all your makeup as well. I only really use this trick when I need serious lasting power, but it’s a great one to have up your sleeve anyway!

  1. Just found your blog, loving it! I have a mini All Nighter but it doesn’t get much use… I should have gone with the De-Slick I think.

    • Yep, I had a mini of All Nighter and didn’t find it mattifying enough for me. Next time you’re in Sephora or Ulta, try out the DeSlick and walk around the store for 10 minutes or so. You can probably see results by then.

Tell me what you think!
