Recently, my complexion’s been looking a little blah. It’s because winter is the worst and despite my MegaBright and Never A Dull Moment usage, I still can’t shake it.
In any case, I’ve been wanting a bronzer of some sort to warm it up. I needed a bronzer that’s darker than I am, which as it turns out, is not easy to find (even with my pale winter skin). I wasn’t 100% set on it being designated as a bronzer, either; I was willing to use a brown-toned blush, or even a face powder that’s a few shades darker than I am. But I couldn’t find any of those that were reasonably priced, either.
Then I remembered the CoverGirl Queen Collection.
It’s a line of CoverGirl products that came out back when Queen Latifah was their main spokesperson and it’s geared specifically towards darker skintones (although they do carry lighter shades too). Their darkest bronzer in 03 Ebony looked like it would be perfect for me.
Well, new problem: you can’t get it in Canadian drugstores. I’ve never seen it anywhere but in the US. (Do they think that Black people don’t live up in the Great White North, or…?) On eBay and Amazon were out of the question because, this bronzer, which retails for about $10 USD, was going for twice that plus shipping. No bueno.
Luckily enough, my momma grabbed this for me in New York. Even then, she said she had to visit several drugstores to find it.
I’d say it was worth it.
It’s a lovely shade of red-toned brown with just the right amount of shimmer to add some warmth and life to my skin. I like applying it with my Real Techniques Blush Brush because the tapered shape lets me really control the application.
Although I’m fairly limited in the shade department because most bronzers are actually lighter than I am, I have to say that I am quite enjoying using my first bronzer!
(Note: I did photograph a swatch of it, but it doesn’t show up on my hands because they’re darker than my face. Sorry!)
